Drink porridge to nourish the stomach? Not good for patients with gastroesophageal reflux

Many people have this life experience. Drink porridge when your stomach is uncomfortable, but it is not a good idea for patients with gastroesophageal reflux who are prone to heartburn and pantothenic acid. A few days ago, Professor Qian Jiaming, director of the Department of Gastroenterology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said in a live broadcast of the "People's Good Doctor" client that patients with gastroesophageal reflux and gastric ulcers are not suitable for liquid food.
Qian Jiaming pointed out that generally fat people are prone to gastroesophageal reflux. This is because after a person becomes fat, the fat pushes the stomach into the shape of a horn, so that the things in the stomach can easily flow back into the esophagus. Severe conditions may also cause inflammation, erosion of the esophageal mucosa, and formation of ulcers.
For the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, drugs that neutralize or inhibit gastric acid are generally given. However, drugs that suppress stomach acid should not be taken for a long time, because the strong acidic environment of the stomach can kill bacteria and have a certain protective effect on the stomach itself. Qian Jiaming said: "For patients with esophagitis or esophageal ulcers, drugs that suppress gastric acid are generally taken for one to two months. When the inflammation disappears and the ulcer heals, the drug can be stopped."

In addition, she reminded everyone that patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease should not eat too much, and it is better to be full. Excessive diet will increase the burden on the stomach, cause digestive dysfunction of the stomach, slow down the emptying of the stomach, food stays in the stomach, the pressure in the stomach increases, and the food is more likely to reflux to the esophagus.
Qian Jiaming suggested, “Don’t try to eat or drink too much water for three hours before going to bed.” If gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs frequently, you should choose the left side to sleep because the stomach is on the left side of the body. When lying on the side, the position of the stomach is lower, and gravity can be used to reduce acid reflux. (Reporter Gao Yinan)
